Leukocyte adhesion molecules

Abstract

The last few years have seen an enormous expansion of knowledge regarding the role of cell surface adhesion molecules in biological processes. This article discusses the contribution that adhesion molecules make to the traffic of leukocytes into and within synovium and to the capacity of leukocytes to perform their specialised functions. Because of their importance in cellular interactions, adhesion molecules represent a major potential target for anti-inflammatory therapy in rheumatoid and other inflammatory arthritides.
